The 12th and 13th of July saw some hardcore playing at the Peter Booysen cricket oval in Pietermaritzburg. It being KZN, we could sleep in and make our way leisurely to the fields, with warm-up starting at 09h00 (or so). The PMB guys shook their heads in surprise and awe when the Jhb players ran around the pitch for a bit of a warm-up and a stretch – we told them about our hectic fitness regime up north. The Durban players arrived at 10h00 (it being KZN) and the tourney started with a BANG! Teams struck an equal balance between PMB, Durban and Jhb and level of skill.
Four teams battled it out:
• Team 1 with Ziad from Jhb and ex-Joburger Bryan (with newly converted Ulitimate player/wife Candice)
• Team 2 with Tina and Dylan
• Team 3 with Helen and Mathula
• Half-PINTS with Ben, Sweetie and Marlise

The semi-finals were played under the most amazing floodlights and after some epic battles, people retired to the braai and yummy supper courtesy of friendly PMB wives and girlfriends. (The vegetarians were treated to 5-star cuisine)
Sunday morning was very bright and felt very early despite it being a decent time. Team 2 and 3 battled it out for positions 3 and 4 and saw poor Mathula sprawled on the ground with a sprained ankle. The Half-PINTS took Team 1 on vowing not to get beaten again (there will be no remarks about certain Half-PINT team member dropping the disk in the End Zone on match point on the Saturday…). The game went on forever and everyone’s nerves were frazzled. The Half-PINTS broke through the 2-digit barrier and a pre-waterbreak slump, to take the game by the skin of their teeth.

What an amazing weekend and 3 HURRAHS! for the PMB players and organisers, who put on a stunning tournament. There was plenty of talk of a hardcore Roctober tourney with 2 PMB sides and one from Durban, we hope!
Be prepared!!
