Swinburne Weekend Info Pack
This info pack will provide you will all the info you need to ready yourself for a weekend of Ultimate Fun!
Dates: 27 Feb – 29 Feb 2010
Venue: Appin Farm, Swinburne (near Harrismith), Free State
Who: Anyone and their dog who are interested in spending a weekend on a relaxed Free State farm. Ultimate players from Johannesburg, Pietermaritzburg and Durban are especially encouraged to come, and to put together 7-a-side teams for the Saturday morning. Beginners are welcome – there will be a great fun hat tourney on the Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning!

Provisional numbers will be collated on Monday the 15th of Feb
Final numbers, your accommodation preference and your R100 – R120 weekend fee should be in on Friday the 19th of Feb (fee will still be calculated by Hilton). We are going to be strict about this deadline as food needs to be bought and plans drawn up. No pay on that day, no play.
This will include your tourney fee, breakfast and lunch Saturday and Sunday, and munchies throughout.
So, what do you need to know?
Accommodation
Accommodation is basic – no frills and no room service.
· Camping: R65 pppn
· Barn accommodation (dormintory-style): R50 pppn
· Rooms: R120 pppn (rooms consist of 2 single beds and an en suite bathroom)
The Liaison officers will collect your accommodation money on the Sunday morning, so make sure you bring enough cash.
There are plenty of showers for the campers and dorm people. There is a fridge in the barn as well as in the big kitchen. Lots of power points – also for the camping.
Meals
Johannesburg will buy the food and there will be a cooking roster drawn up by Marc for cooking turns. There is a big kitchen with gas and plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
There will be a fire lit in the lapa for people who want to braai on Friday night – otherwise just eat en route. Salads and side-dishes will be provided for the Saturday night supper – you bring what you want to braai.
Provisional game plan
This depends on the number of people who confirm. Hilton and Mich are the Tourney Directors and will give through info closer to the time.
Provisional programme:
· Saturday morning: 7-a-side games
· Saturday afternoon: Mixed hat tourney 5-a-side
· Saturday evening with sun-downers: Free State Disc Golf Tourney II hosted by South African Disc Golf Association (SADGA)
· Sunday morning: Hat tourney
Other activities:
You can hike, rock climb, mountain bike or just lie on the grass under the trees reading.
What you need to bring:
· Your cleats or tekkies
· Sunscreen
· Hat
· Sun umbrella/gazebo
· Sunscreen
· Bath towels
· Braai stuff for Fri and Sat night
· Walking shoes
· Warm sweater if it gets cold and the wind picks up (will make for some interesting Disc games… so prepare yourself). Rain is also not unheard of.
· Sleeping bags and pillows if you sleep in the barn or camping
· If you are camping – surprise, surprise – your camping stuff
· Your dog if it is nice and won’t bite the other dogs or the horses and cattle on the farm
Directions:
The farm is about 2.5 – 3 hours drive from Johannesburg and Durban. Please organise lift clubs so that we can be as environmentally-friendly as possible. Agata will coordinate lifts for Johannesburg (let Agata know if you can offer a lift(s), or want one)
From the North:
· Take the N3 to Harrismith
· Pass through Harrismith towards Ladysmith
· +- 15 km outside of Harrismith you will see a Shell Ultra City on the right. Big “House of Coffees”, Steers etc. Turn right here
· Pass the entrance to the garage and within a few meters you will see gravel road to your left with Appin Farm and Bald Ibis signs
· Take the gravel road and follow the signs to the farm (you are basically make your way up the big mountain that you cannot miss)
From the South
· Take the N3 to Harrismith
· About 40 km north from Ladysmith you will see a Shell Ultra City on your left
