Beginners league injuries: ’she who will not be named‘

Join our beginners league! Mail Mike to be placed on a team.

Nationals results:
Saturday:
Ultitude (Jozi ultimate) vs Prawn Bunnies (Durban) 15:4
Ultitude vs Slummies (East London) 15:8
Ultitude vs Stellenbosch 10:13
Ultitude vs Wachati (UCT-A) 7:9
Ultitude vs Chillies (Cape Town - and the ‘ultimate’ winners) 11:15 (rock on Ultitude)
Yes, that was as you read it: 5 games, four on the trot, one in the evening, when we should’ve been partying.
Sunday:
Quarter finals:
Ultitude vs Long Donkeys (Maritzurg - and the ‘ultimate’ runners up) 5:15
Ultitude vs Wachati (UCT-A) 10:9
For 5th or 6th spot:
Ultitude vs Zebru (Cape Town Zebra lookalikes) 10:7
Twelve teams playing, hearts a pounding. It was tough tough tough. Ultitide played impressively, with great spirit and with plenty of ’chilli-chilli’ (calmness throughout each point - not getting too excited in the score zone and not throwing it away) and managed to take fifth place - awesome Ulti… a really well deserved spot on the log.
Photos will be up on the website asap.
It’s almost upon us….. aaaaargh.
The team has been chosen, lines suggested and training begun.
Jozi Ultimate is fortunate enough to have Mr Rahul offer his time and expertise as field coach and strategist (opponents beware!).
Fitness begins in earnest Thursday (Baden and Cath heading this up). Skills are being polished and linkages made.
We are ready.
Viva Jozi ultimate.
We had a super cool time in Swinburne and played some great games of Ultimate in very beautiful surroundings. We kicked off with a five-a-side round robin on Saturday morning which was won by Mixed Nuts. After lunch some of us gathered on the disc golf course for a round of golf where Juan produced a brilliant hole in one on the 8th causing much excitement. Saturday’s activities finished off with a game of “SOCIAL!”, at the end of which many of us were decidedly jolly and very, very hungry. On Sunday morning, Gauteng played KZN and lost in a closely contested game (although we donated Tina to KZN for the game – a clear advantage for the opposition!!). All in all, a superb weekend of Ultimate, Disc golf and socializing.

There are plenty of showers for the campers and dorm people. There is a fridge in the barn as well as in the big kitchen. Lots of power points – also for the camping.
Meals
Johannesburg will buy the food and there will be a cooking roster drawn up by Marc for cooking turns. There is a big kitchen with gas and plenty of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
There will be a fire lit in the lapa for people who want to braai on Friday night – otherwise just eat en route. Salads and side-dishes will be provided for the Saturday night supper – you bring what you want to braai.

See you at the next tournament!
We have just had a rockin’ RockNationals Tournament 2009 - congrats to the Chillies (Cape Town) for winning the tournament and Prawn Bunnies (Durban) for winning the overall team (spirit & play) award. Thanks to all the teams that travelled from far to join us, and to all the tournament organisers for a great tournament.
Pickup games are back at Sandton Sports Club / George Lea Park. Normal format - Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 7pm and Sunday afternoons from 4pm.
With rainy season approaching please note 2 things.
1. If it looks like it is raining please still come down to the field to play as more often than not the rainstorm is not directly over the club, so we can still get a game in.
2. If it has rained continuously during the course of the day you need to check your mail at 5pm as sometimes we are unable to use the fields if they are waterlogged. If we have to cancel the game we try our best to send out a mail before 5pm to warn everyone. If in doubt still come through to see if you can get a game in.
Happy Throwing!
Hi Johannesburg Ultimate Players
Unfortunately it seems that we may have to play some games at the Zoo Lake fields (Moyo side of Zoo Lake). Please keep an eye out on the weekly reminders to see where the games will be played, and if you are not on the e-mailing list contact Dylan on dfw700@gmail.com to make sure of the venue.
Thanks and sorry for any inconveniences caused by this.
